CSN has compiled the report presented below through painstaking review of information on Colombian military and police abuses against the civilian population throughout Colombia. The report relies on public information—reports published in newspapers in Colombia and in the United States, and from Colombian and United States government web sites. It covers the period from 2005 through 2012.
The importance of this document is that it demonstrates clearly that United States taxpayer funds in great quantities have gone to finance and support a Colombian Army which has committed thousands of human rights abuses against its own citizens. It raises the following questions for our U.S. readers: How can we justify spending our money on such a corrupt Colombian institution? Isn’t it time to suspend all U.S. military assistance to Colombia pending changes bringing to an end these abuses?
