CSN Report: Mining in Colombia
This link is to a very significant PowerPoint presentation by Professor Al Gedicks, prepared specially for the CSN national conference last week. Professor Gedicks has publshed several books and articles on what he has described as the "resource curse", problems brought to communities by international mining interests. He has focused especially upon indigenous communities and founded the Center for Alternative Mining Development Policy, based in La Crosse, Wisconsin where he teaches at the University of Wisconsin.
Professor Gedicks' analysis highlights the problems with President Santos' proposed mining engine of growth ("locomotora"). Read the Article:http://colombiasupport.net/2011/Mining-in-Colombia.pdf
