Preceding Events: The current president of the Santander Universidad Industrial (UIS), Jaime Camacho – Pico, wants to be reelected and serve a third term as president of this university located in Bucaramanga, capital of the Department of Santander, Colombia. Mister Camacho-Pico is currently under investigation by Colombia’s Sixth Special Attorney’s Office in Bucaramanga for contacts with paramilitary groups, i.e. death squads. Proof of this is a conversation he had with a paramilitary called ‘Felix’, which took place on July 4, 2007. “Felix” revealed in this conversation that a so- called ‘Pistol Plan’ is in the making to clean out and get rid of students, professors and workers known to have “leftist opinions”. A month later, students were threatened by death squads for the first time. The president of a university should be first in line to safeguard the security of the community he has been entrusted with. Camacho has failed to do this and therefore is politically responsible for threats targeting students, faculty and workers of this university.
The election on April 24 resulted in a tie, with the representative of President Santos, the representative of the university ex- presidents, the representative of the business community, and the Academic Steering Committee voting for Camacho, and the representatives of the Governor, the faculty, the alumni and the students voting against him. The representative of the Department of Education abstained. The new president of the university (2012 – 2015) will be elected by the UIS Board of Governors (Consejo Superior) on the 22nd of this month. Please write to President Juan Manuel Santos and Secretary of Education Maria Fernanda Campo to convince them that it is really grotesque for the Colombian government to allow Jaime Camacho to be re-elected for this position while under investigation for links with death squads.

AYUDE A DETENER EL NOMBRAMIENTO DEL RECTOR DE LA UNIVERSIDAD INDUSTRIAL DE SANTANDER
ANTECEDENTES :
El Rector de la Universidad Industrial de Santander ( UIS), Jaime Camacho Pico, desea ser re-elegido por tercera vez ,como rector de dicha Universidad localizada en Bucaramanga, capital del departamento de Santander, Colombia. El señor Camacho – Pico, es objeto de una investigación por parte de la Fiscalia Sexta Especializada de Bucaramanga por nexos con grupos paramilitares como se llama a los escuadrones de la muerte en Colombia, evidenciado en una conversación sostenida con un paramilitary llamado “Felix” que tuvo lugar el 4 de Julio de 2007. En dicha conversación Felix le revela a Camacho que se hará un “Plan Pistola” para hacer una limpieza contra estudiantes, profesores y trabajadores que tengan “pensamiento de izquierda”. Felix le pide una lista de nombres que el rector se compromete a entregar. Un mes despues llegó la primera amenaza a estudiantes por parte de los escuadrones de la muerte llamados paramilitares.
El rector de una universidad debe ser el primero en garantizar la seguridad de la comunidad a su cargo y Camacho al omitir este deber, tiene una responsabilidad política por las amenazas realizadas a estudiantes, docentes y demas trabajadores de la universidad.
Hubo un empate en la votacion el pasado 24 de abril en la cual el representante del presidente Santos, el representante de ex – rectores, el representatnte de los hombres de negocios y el de la Dirección Académica votaron a favor de Camacho. Los representantes del gobernador, los profesores, los exalumnos y los estudiantes votaron contra Camacho. La representatne del Ministerio de Educacion votó en blanco. En una votacion que tendrá lugar el próximo 22 de mayo el Consejo Superior de la UIS elegirá el Nuevo rector 2012 – 2015.
Por favor escribale al Presidente Juan Manuel Santos y a la Ministra de Educacion Maria Fernanda Campo haciendoles ver que es realmente grotesco que el gobierno de Colombia permita la reelección de Jaime Camacho para rector de una Universidad, mientras es investigado por nexos con escuadrones de la muerte.

Der Rektor der Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), Jaime Camacho Pico, hat seine Kandidatur für eine dritte Amtszeit als Rektor der Universidad Industrial de Santander in Bucaranga, Hauptstadt des Departamento Santander/ Kolumbien rechtzeitig bekannt gegeben. Die Strafverfolgungsbehörden in Bucamaranga ermitteln allerdings gegenwärtig gegen Camacho-Pico wegen Verbindungen zu Todesschwadronen bzw. Paramilitärs, die durch ein Gespräch, dass dieser am 4. Einen Monat später erhielten Studenten die ersten Drohungen der Todesschwadronen. Ein Rektor sollte der Erste sein, der für die Sicherheit aller Angehørigen der Universität sorgt und Camacho, der dies nicht getan hat, tråg damit die politische Verantwortung für die Drohungen, die Studenten, Dozenten und Arbeiter der Universität erhalten haben. Die Wahl am 24. April verlief ergebnislos, wobei der Vetreter des kolumbianischen Präsidenten Santos, der Vetreter der ehemaligen Rektoren, die Vetreter der Wirtschaft und der Hochschulleitung für Camacho stimmten. Die Vetreter des Gouverneurs, der Professoren, des Alumniverbundes und der Studenten stimmten gegen Camacho. Der Vetreter des Bldungsministeriums enthielt sich der Stimme. Der Hochschulrat der UIS wird nun erneut am 22. Mai einen Rektor für die Amtszeit 2012 – 2015 wählen. Bitte schreiben Sie an den kolumbianischen Präsidenten Juan Manuel Santos und die Bildungsministerin Maria Fernada Campo und machen Sie deutlich, dass es geradezu grotesk ist, dass die Regierung Kolumbiens es zulässt, dass diese Person Rektor einer Universität sein kann, aber gleichzeitig idie Justiz wegen Verbindungen zu Todesschwadronen gegen iCamacho ermittelt.
