ASOGRAS, the Association of Peasants in Santander state, is formed by campesinos struggling to keep their legitimate right to associate, defend human rights and International Humanitarian Law and environmental issues, by denouncing hydroelectric mega-projects such as Hidrosogamoso http://www.isagen.com.co/sala-de-prensa/, the contamination of the Lebrija river and the exploitation of the Potosi mine, among others.
As recently as June 26, ASOGRAS and its President Cesar Augusto Tamayo were victims of threats and attacks by illegal armed groups sometimes calling themselves either Urabeños or Gaitanistas. See link:http://colombiasupport.net/2014/06/president-of-asogras-cesar-tamayo-suffers-attempt-at-his-life/
Please write to the following and request not only protection for ASOGRAS and its leader Cesar Augusto Tamayo, but an investigation about these threats and punishment for those responsible.
