The president of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP), Roberto Vidal, has reiterated his deep concern over death threats against officials of that state entity, saying that a team of his lawyers received new threats related to judicial processes carried out by the JEP.
Created by law, and a product of the 2016 Final Agreement between the Colombian State and the former FARC, the JEP aims to satisfy the rights of the victims of the Colombian armed conflict, ensure the clarification of the truth, guarantee accountability for what happened, and contribute to a climate of reconciliation in that country.
We, the members of the Board of Directors of the Colombia Support Network, based in Madison, Wisconsin, USA, express our solidarity with the entire JEP team and our rejection of any kind of intimidation against them or any Colombian, especially if they are members of a state body with such an essential role in peacebuilding. We ask that these threats be investigated and that the persons affected be protected and their safety guaranteed.
