EL TIEMPO was able to confirm with government sources that representatives of the 15 member countries of the United Nations Security Council will arrive in Colombia next February 7.

This visit was announced on January 11 during the quarterly report on Colombia by the UN Secretary General. At that time, the date of their arrival was not yet known.

In addition, as already confirmed by Ecuador’s ambassador to the UN, José De La Gasca, during this visit there will be meetings with all of the relevant actors in the peace process.

“The voice of encouragement and active participation by this Security Council continues to constitute very important backing for us, a cornerstone—as he said at the beginning—for our success. Their expected visit to Colombia will be another important highlight in the history of commitment to peace in Colombia,” said Carlos Ruiz Massieu, the Secretary General’s Special Representative and Chief of the UN Verification Mission in Colombia during his most recent statement to the Security Council.
