Dear members and friends of Colombia Support Network,
We invite you to join us for an informative CSN Zoom conversation with CSN’s longtime friend Clara López Obregón on Saturday November 23, 2024 at 3:00 CT.
Senator Clara López Obregón has a degree in economics from Harvard University (magna cum laude), and in law from the Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá; she studied financial and tax law at the University of Salamanca, Spain. Her academic career includes professorships at Universidad del Rosario and Universidad de los Andes.
In public life since the early 2000’s, she has been Colombia’s Auditor General, City Controller and Acting Mayor of Bogotá, Minister of Labor, candidate for the presidency, and is currently Senator for the Pacto Historico coalition for the 2022 -2025 term.
We look forward to a meaningful conversation with Senator Clara López on topics such as:
- changes the first left-wing government in Colombia has made (or not made), and the outlook for progress in Petro’s remaining term in office;
- the outlook for Petro’s program of Paz Total. (There has been a profusion of armed organizations in the countryside, many depending on revenue from drug-trafficking. And the ELN guerrillas have still not laid down their arms. What could the Petro Administration be doing to advance peace in the countryside?);
- the scandals surrounding the cash purchase of the Israeli-supplied Pegasus spyware, and the US role in this;
- possible changes in Colombia-U.S. relations under President-elect Trump – not only as concerns migration and deportations, but also drugs, the complicated relations between the Colombian Government and Venezuelan President Maduro, and climate policy.
Please register using the form at the link below, and we will send you the zoom link ahead of the meeting.
We hope you can join us on November 23, 2024, at 3pm Central Time (4 pm Colombian time)!
