Adam Isacson is currently the Director for WOLA’s Defense Oversight Program. Colombia has been a central focus for his work, as Colombia has been the primary recipient of U.S. security assistance in the Western Hemisphere since the early 1990s. His path-breaking work at WOLA has focused on the Colombian Armed Forces and U.S. Government support for Colombia’s military, through Plan Colombia up to the present. Monitoring U.S. aid, and advocating for peaceful resolution to Colombia’s long armed conflict, has led him to visit Colombia more than 70 times. He has done work in 23 of the country’s 32 departments.

As he notes in a recent article (https://responsiblestatecraft.org/2022/06/22/a-fresh-start-for-colombia-and-for-us-policy/)

“Gustavo Petro’s election offers a major turn in the country’s politics, but entrenched interests in both countries will try to make it difficult.”

Adam Isacson is uniquely positioned to explain these entrenched interests and their significance for Colombia’s future in the fundamentally changed landscape of the Petro presidency.

We hope you will join us!
